History of Christie Elementary

Christie Elementary is named in honor of Charles Mott Christie, a native Planonian whose life and work reflect the early agricultural and business development of the community. Born just a few miles north of the present-day school site, Christie maintained deep roots in Collin County throughout his life.

After spending nearly two decades in West Texas, Christie returned to Plano with his family and established a hardware and farm implement business. At a time when North Texas was still largely rural, his work helped local farmers transition to more modern, mechanized practices—supporting both agricultural efficiency and the region’s economic growth.

In addition to his business contributions, Christie is remembered as a conservation-minded community member who valued the land and the people who depended on it. His legacy of service and local investment carried forward through his family. Notably, his descendant, C.J. Christie, served on the Plano ISD School Board from 1953 to 1960, continuing the family’s commitment to public education and community leadership.

Today, Christie Elementary honors that legacy by fostering a strong connection between school, community, and lifelong learning—values that reflect the spirit of its namesake.

Christie Elementary opened in 1973 at a construction cost of $915,225. The campus expanded with an addition in 1976, followed by classroom modifications in 1991 to better support student learning. In 1996, the school underwent a major renovation to modernize the facility and enhance its functionality for a growing community.

Be the Change. Make the Difference.
